This is a list of Counter Abilities available in Fell Seal as of version 1.0.2.

Each character can have a single counter ability set. Each class has a single counter ability available that can be purchased with AP, and you can set any counter you have purchased regardless of which class it came from.

Base Classes[edit | edit source]

This is a list of counters available from the 20 base human classes.

Counterattack Mercenary, Harvester Counters with a Regular Attack any offensive action taken against the character by an adjacent unit.
Thorns Knight, Vangal Grants Thorns.pngThorns to the character after being targeted by any damaging offensive action.
Evade Attack Templar Character always evades any Regular Attack.
Evade Skill Duelist Character always evades any Skill.
Critical: Rebirth Reaver, Cadaver Grants Rebirth.pngRebirth to the character when HP is Critical after taking damage.
Critical: Mirage Assassin, Malcubus Grants Mirage.pngMirage to the character when HP is Critical after taking damage.
Countershot Ranger Counters with a Regular Attack any ranged Regular Attack or Skill taken against the character.
Steal Scoundrel, Kawa Counters any offensive action taken on the character by an adjacent unit by attempting to steal a Component (enemies using this counter will steal an item instead).
Teleport Other Gunner Counters any offensive action taken on the character by an adjacent unit by teleporting the offender to a random location on dry land on the map.
Critical: Quicken Peddler, Daodrenner Grants the character an immediate turn when HP is Critical after taking damage.
Renew Mender Grants Renew.pngRenew to the character after being targeted by any damaging offensive action.
Mystic Shield Alchemystic, Mummified As long as the character has any MP when taking damage, the whole damage is negated. Damage taken will lower current MP.
Root Sorcerer Counters any offensive action taken on the character by afflicting the offender with Root.pngRoot.
Barrier Plague Doctor Grants Barrier.pngBarrier to the character after being targeted by any damaging offensive action.
Magic Wizard, Niwot Counters any damaging offensive Spell cast on the character by casting a non-elemental version of that spell back at the attacker.
Adaptive Affinity Druid, Pektite When the character is dealt elemental damage, they gain a buff that increases their own damage output by .35x with that Element.
Evade Magic Fellblade Character always evades any Spells.
Haste Warmage, Bulldrake Grants Haste.pngHaste to the character after being targeted by any damaging offensive action.
Fleet of Foot Gambler, Rakkerjak Grants FleetofFoot.pngFleet of Foot to the character and removes Root.pngRoot after being targeted by any damaging offensive action.
Absorb Mana Gadgeteer, Therva When character is targeted by any offensive Ability that has an MP cost, they gain the same amount of MP that was used. Only triggers if the offensive Ability would do damage to the target.

Special Classes[edit | edit source]

This is a list of all counters that are available to character-specific classes and badge classes, or are exclusive to monster classes.

Poison Lich Counters any offensive action taken on the character by afflicting the offender with Poison.pngPoison.
Hallowed Soul Vessel When the character is dealt elemental damage, they gain a buff that increases their defense against that Element.
Total Shield Princess, Lord Grants DefUp.pngDEF Up, ResUp.pngRES Up to the character after being targeted by any damaging offensive action.
Slow Marked Counters any offensive action taken on the character by afflicting the offender with Slow.pngSlow.
Weaken Spymaster, Arpia Counters any offensive action taken on the character by afflicting the offender with Weaken.pngWeaken.
Mute Demon Knight, Vampire Counters any offensive action taken on the character by afflicting the offender with Mute.pngMute.
Bleed Bounty Hunter Counters any offensive action taken on the character by afflicting the offender with Bleed.pngBleed.
Pounce The Exiled, Helhund Counters any offensive action taken on the character by an adjacent unit by trying to jump next to the unit and attacking them with a weaker Regular Attack. Doesn't trigger if the character is underwater.
Shared Rage Bzzerk Counters any offensive action taken on the character by an adjacent unit by afflicting the offender with Berserk.pngBerserk.
Adaptive Evasion Zotzit When the character is targeted by any offensive action, they gain a buff granting 100% evasion against any subsequent action of the same type (Regular Attack, Skill, or Spell).
Adaptive Aegis Archafflictor When the character is dealt elemental damage, they gain a buff that increases their defense against that Element.
Turnabout Ercinee Upon death, deals 1.5x Fire.pngFire damage around the character (Height 3).
Scar Tissue Tangrel Whenever damage is taken, whichever stat was used to defend (DEF or RES) will increase by 0.1x until the end of the battle (max 0.4x bonus).
Thrash Blardger Counters any offensive action taken on the character by an adjacent unit with Whirling Blow.

Notes[edit | edit source]

Counters will not trigger on all forms of damage. Environmental damage (push, fall, drown) will not trigger counters, and neither will Poison.pngPoison/Bleed.pngBleed damage at the end of the turn. In addition, Counters will not trigger from other counters. The only exception to these rules is Turnabout, which triggers at the moment of the unit's death.

The buff gained from Hallowed Soul and Adaptive Aegis is 75% resistance. It is added on top of any existing elemental resistance the character may have.

Evade Attack works on any ability that performs or is otherwise treated as a Regular Attack even if they are Skills. This means Evade Attack protects against Infused Edge, Arterial Cut, Chaos Slice, and similar abilities. Similarly, Evade Skill will not work on those abilities.

Pounce deals .8x the damage of a Regular Attack.

HP is considered Critical when at 20% or less of its maximum value.

The Thorns counter will only add the Thorns status effect to the character. Because it triggers after the attack, the Thorns.pngThorns will not deal damage from the attack that triggered the buff.
